YOD Gallery is pleased to present "rondo", a solo exhibition by Kozo Takeuchi.

Kouzo Takeuchi has developed his own unique ceramic expression over the years. After stacking a series of white porcelain pieces into a regular cube and fired, he deliberately destroys it with a hammer or scrape off the glaze of the surface to reveal the rough quality. His work encompasses a multi-layered and multi-directional time axis

In recent years, he has been working with other materials such as metal, wood, and lacquer. His works have gained recognition in Japan and overseas for the complexity in structure and the academic approach.

Resonance of Materials

I have been working on the Modern Remains Series for some time now.

In this series, in order to express the aesthetic of modern ruins, I break the square porcelain pipes after they have been constructed, molded, and fired. Besides, I have been trying to incorporate different materials into this series in recent years.

By including some non-porcelain materials and re-examining the texture of the materials, I can feel the charm of each material anew. Working with those new materials is very difficult and anxious. While combining the porcelain with various materials, to present and challenge it, I could explore the fun of the material as well as its stunning beauty, fragility, and strength.

Please take this opportunity to visit the exhibition.
