Noriyuki Haraguchi

"KOUSEI"

10th July (Sat) – 4th September (Sat), 2021

Hours:13:00~19:00, closed Sundays

YOD Gallery is pleased to present the "Kosei" exhibition by Noriyuki Haraguchi.

Haraguchi is known as a representative artist of the Mono-ha school. His works not only feature industrial materials such as iron, steel, rubber, and polyurethane as they are, but also actively intervene in the creation of the place while making use of their physicality.

This exhibition will focus on Haraguchi’s drawing works created between 1998 and 2010. The title of this exhibition, "Kosei," derives from the "Kosei" series which is a part of the exhibited works. Regarding his own drawings, Haraguchi once said,

“For example, by using extremely thin paper with a thickness of just a few millimeters, or carving drawing paper, I value the very delicate pressure of rubbing the paper, or the directness such physical sensations have brought me.”[1]

As a plastic artist, Haraguchi directly contemplates objects, to feel and bring out their weight and physical properties and has been creating works of massive scale. Therefore, we can infer that, his approach to drawing is not so different from the methodology he uses to create three-dimensional works while the drawing works are just like "composing" a three-dimensional work on paper. They could be one of the keys to deciphering Haraguchi's philosophy.

Please do not miss this opportunity to view these involving works.
